The player takes on the role of the commander, tasked with defending bases, colonies, space stations, and outposts from waves of aliens attempting to grab and escape with the power cores housed in each location.
Nintendo Switch version was released on February 7, 2019. Linux and OS X versions were released on October 15, 2014. As a sequel to the 2008 Defense Grid: The Awakening, the game was crowd-funded on Kickstarter in 2012, and released on Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on September 23, 2014.
